So I finished Yoko Kamio's "Cat Street" today. And I watched "The Time Travellers Wife" in the cinema last night. I am so high on romance!
Cat street is amazing. I'm sad there isn't more of a fanbase for it because I need more, thus I will have to provide myself with more so we can probably expect fanart soon. (potentially spoilerish fanart so go read the manga!!) Kouichi is a serious awesome character in that at first he doesn't have the "cool guy"(you know, all sparkly and strong and sweep the girl off her feet, smile and hold her while she cries type) shoujo vibe to him (even though he's seriously hot and actually looks japanese. a hot japanese looking computer-genius geek! how novel in manga!)he would say "that's rude!" The main character Keito isn't bad either. You don't have time to be annoyed at her faults because she makes up for it with her innocence and self-discoveries whereas typically the girls cry too much and never learn. (I'm not having a go at shoujo-manga, obviously I'm a huge fan either way) I just really enjoyed its different-ness.
Oh but Time Travellers Wife was a let down if you hold it up next to the book. If you are looking for a serious adaptation I wouldn't recommend it. About half way through the movie I realized very clearly that it was a book that simply could not become a film and decided not to judge it for that. It paled the original story dramatically so that it could make a lovely satisfyingly tear-jerking chick-flick out of it. Alot of the sads were taken out all together. And even though I think she's gorgeous and a fine actress I was disappointed in McAdams performance as Claire. she just didn't get across the depth of the character half the time. I guess it was the same for Henry though, but I think they picked a good guy to play him. (or did they just pick him for his bum which they liked so much?) So yeah, I cried anyway, but I couldn't tell if it was for memories of the book or the movie. a NICE film. not moving like the book though. Okay, okay. I'm finished now.
So we were meant to be occupied with friends tonight but in my romantic mood I will probably delve myself into either more manga or drawing. (although Star Ocean 2 has taken the back burner for the week and needs picked up again.)
Three things fuel me best: Andy, romance, (although the two come hand in hand

) and hunger. I eat less, I draw more, the drawings are better than normal. That's an unhealthy way to be but it's got a historical success rate, no? (borrowed revelation from Duma Key, I'm not that clever.)
Oh and Dana, if you're reading this, you too! haha X3
whoa. I actually wrote a proper entry about stuff and junk?!
AND and, Ashton (star ocean 2) is love as well.
Edit: shopping list for myself: Kare Kano, Lovely Complex, Cat Street. whats next?
I figured you'd enjoy this more than anyone i know.
